Meet Sébastien Khoury Rosas
I’m Sébastien Khoury Rosas, a Franco-Colombian designer, art director, and illustrator living in Lyon. Creation has always been part of my life; a way to build, shape, communicate — and above all, to play. Since my childhood in Colombia, I’ve been surrounded by artists, musicians, and a creative culture. Over time, I realized that for me, creation is a way to respond to the needs of the world. It’s not just about serving a practical or rational function, but also about listening to intuition and giving space to emotional, aesthetic, and symbolic functionality.
Every creation should evoke play and serve as a way to tell stories and express ideas. I prefer to design to have a positive impact on the world rather than just to sell something. It might be a bit naïve, but I believe that today, more than ever, we should prioritize the well-being of people and the planet over the pressure to feed a saturated and competitive market. For me, design is a way to connect ideas with people.
My path has taken me from Bogotá’s creative environments to France’s design scene, where I’ve learned to navigate between two cultures and two ways of perceiving life and creativity. I don’t like staying still in one place; I’m interested in exploring the world and embracing creation as a lifelong manifesto.
For over ten years, I’ve moved between industrial design, product design, graphic design, art direction, and illustration, always with the intention of discovering new stories. I’ve always felt that the love of my life is and will always be to create consciously. That’s why I founded Bicho, a project that explores creation as a vehicle for reflection, play, and change. It’s not just an illustration project; it’s meant to evolve into new creations, proposing new forms of products, music, art, performance, and cinema, while escaping the stereotypes we sometimes confine ourselves to.
